Upon the passing away of our dear Skyla, we have received in these past days numerous messages of affection and support through our social networks, as well as from our colleagues from modern zoos, aquariums around the world, and we want to express our heartfelt gratitude.
As a response to this display of affection and sincere concern, we proceed to share with you the results of the post-mortem study carried out on our Skyla by a group of expert cetacean pathologists from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
According to the results of the necropsy, the cause of death was intestinal torsion, which caused acute septicemia and immediate death. This pathology can occur suddenly in completely healthy animals and is absolutely inoperable in cetaceans, so, despite all our precautions and efforts, it would not have been possible to do anything to save Skyla’s life.
After the enormous shock caused by such a sudden loss of one of our most beloved animals, the rest of the orcas and the OrcaOcean trainers, are returning gradually to normality.
We will miss you, Skyla!
